It's the year 1996, the year Helmut Kohl, the German chancellor, breaks the legendary record held by Konrad Adenauer and remains in office longer than any other German chancellor. Also longer than anyone dared to predict, DAS RENNQUINTETT has prevailed, and that since exactly ten years. The proof of this ensemble's unbroken spirit, vitality and creativity is demonstrated with this CD, being the sixth and a sequel of the successful style of the very first release That's a plenty! . It contains a highly entertaining mixture of the concert performances of the previous years. Besides the favourites like Beale Street Blues, King Louie's Song, The Saints' Hallelujah or the Königlich Bayrische Amtsgerichtspolka, the 'light classics' like the Carmen Suite and Gershwin hits are included as well. It goes without saying, that also on this CD DAS RENNQUINTETT has some specialties to offer. For example, a fugue in bebop style written by Friedrich Gulda is combined unscrupulously with a prelude from J.S. Bach, and Charlie Parker's bebop-standard Au Privave has never been heard like this before. Klaus Arp, the long-standing conductor of the Southwest German Broadcast Orchestra, illustrates whimsically his attraction towards jazz with his composition Tuba Blues, and Ralf Rudolph, who in the past years has put his mark on DAS RENNQUINTETT with his wonderful arrangements, once again shows his unwavering creativity with his Chinese Folk Suite. Taking part in the recording of this piece and also the bossa nova medley was the Auriga-Percussionquartet, the perfect accompanists for DAS RENNQUINTETT. And now, dear listener, put the CD in the player and viel Vergnügen (have fun)! Our special gratitude to: Klaus Arp, Juergen Pfiester, Klaus Roggors, Ralf Rudolph, Sigurd Krumpfer, Fritz Heieck, Rudolf Anslinger, das AURIGA-Schlagzeugquartett, Jochen Ille, CANADIAN BRASS and the Spielbank Bad Duerkheim (cover-photo).
